How Can You Avoid Hair Damage During Summer?

23 junio, 2020 by Admin

Summer is great, isn’t it? Good wether, beach time, sunshine…etc. However, in order to get the best of Vitamin D, you need to be prepared to protect yourself. While skin remains our first concern (and it should be), we often neglect our hair. So what happens? At the beginning of fall, you end up with dry ends, thin and damaged hair. Just like using sunscreen to protect your from the sun, here are few things you can do to avoid hair damage during summer heat.

Don’t Shampoo Everyday

The UV rays from the sun makes hair weak and burned. So, after every beach day you use shampoo to »wash it off.» Yet, according to research, using shampoo everyday on your hair dries it from its natural oil. This doesn’t only mean that it gets damaged, but it also makes it more susceptible to the side effects of so much sun. So, instead of using shampoo everyday, let your hair breathe. Instead, deep condition your hair after the beach/pool, so it stays clean and slightly healthier than with shampoo.

Use Sun Protection

Sun protection for your skin should go without saying. You must use the right sunscreen every time you are exposed to the sun, and not just at the beach when you tan. Unfortunately, there is still no dermatologically-proven sunscreen for hair right now, so the best alternative you have is a scarf or a hat.

Drink Lots of Fluids

One of the biggest side-effects of beach days on you, is dehydration. Your organs, skin, and hair need twice the regular water intake during the summer season. Make sure to drink over 2L of water a day, and try consuming fruits and veggies that are high on water. (Cucumber, watermelon, grapes…)

DIY Egg And Mayo Mask

One other good method to avoid hair damage in summer, is through some nutritious hair-masks. According to research, egg and mayo are the exact combo needed for healthy hair. In fact, they both have great amount of vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids and protein. Making this mask once a week will help your hair to recover, grow and stay strong.

Which Of These Sunscreen Types Is Better For You?

8 mayo, 2020 by Admin

There are various sunscreen types, and each have their beneficial properties. Moreover, When you think about preparing your skin for the summer, you’re usually only interested in protecting yourself from sun rays, right? However, many times, you leave out other important elements of the cream that can double the benefits. Since not all sunscreens are the same, and we don’t want you going crazy when choosing your next cream, we are going to fill you in on the differences between mineral and chemical sunscreens.

Mineral Sunscreen

These are the creams that probably sound most familiar to you. Especially that they have been very trendy in the past few years. So, how to make the difference? If you can’t find it anywhere in the packaging, there is a very simple method to know. These are the creams that make you feel »sticky»

Furthermore, these types of sunscreen work by blocking the sun’s ultraviolet rays before they reach your skin, so that they stay above it. Yes, that is why they are usually organic and «less harmful» for oily skin, but it also means that you will have to be very careful not to get anything stuck on them, like sand for example.

In exchange, mineral creams assure you that, from the moment you apply it, you will be protected. Also, there is a low probability that your pores will being affected.

Chemical Sunscreen

On the other hand, these creams which are based on chemicals, block ultraviolet rays «from within» your skin. They are one of those sunscreen types that you need to apply for a while before sunbathing, if you don’t want to end up burned in half an hour. But, in return, you won’t end up drenched in sand.

Additionally, you won’t need to apply them as often as mineral creams. However, they also have some down parts, especially if you suffer from acne. Because by penetrating the deepest layers of your skin to protect yourself, some pores may suffer in the process.

Which Is Better For Your Skin Type?

Dermatologists claim that both fulfill their function. However, mineral sunscreen works best with almost all types of skin. Why? Mainly because it will protect you from the Sun from minute 0, therefore, avoiding to burn people with lighter skin.

It is also a great advantage, is that it often has no “side effects» on your skin and pores. Thus, you don’t have to waste all the effort you put into our beauty and skin care routines.

Time To Stop These Terrible Skincare Habits ASAP

11 septiembre, 2019 by Admin

When it comes to taking care of our skin, we each have our own routine. Some keep it simple– a swipe of micellar water and done, whereas others use treatments, rollers, and exfoliators… The list goes on. While there is no definitive «right» way to take care of your skin, since we all have different types, there are certain regimens that are doing more damage than good. It’s time to stop the following terrible skincare habits ASAP.

Going Overboard with Skincare Products

a table full of skincare products.

Using multiple products to treat any skin problems might SEEM like the smart solution, but it can actually cause more irritation and inflammation. Whenever we see a new product on the market, it can be tempting to believe the benefits. However, the smartest way to cure any skin issue (acne, redness, dryness) is by using only two or three products max. This will both a) save you money on skincare products and b) calm your skin down.

Popping Your Pimples

This should be a given by now, but squeezing your own zits is never a good idea. While almost all of us are guilty of attempting to attack that new planet that popped on our faces overnight, in the long run this only leads to more acne. All the squeezing can actually press the pimples deeper into your pores, which can cause a skin infection. What’s more, the oils on your fingers can spread and cause infection and zits on other spots on the face. If you do get the urge to squeeze, you should try putting a spot treatment on the area with a cotton swab to directly improve the skin.

Skipping The Sunscreen

Regardless of the time of year, it is important to protect your skin from the sun’s rays. If you are worried about causing your skin to be greasy, fear not for there are many SPFs designed oil-free. Everyone should be using SPF because without it, the collagen in skin breaks down which brings on wrinkles and discoloration.

Excessive Washing And Exfoliating

You might think washing more means cleaner skin, but the reality is that over cleansing and exfoliating can dry out the skin. The result can vary depending on your skin type, but you can expect to have redness and inflammation. There is also the chance of getting worse acne, because your oil glands start to work in overdrive. When it comes to skincare, less is more!
