Disney Reveals Who Will Be Their New Ariel

To add to the list of new live-action remakes, Disney is creating “The Little Mermaid” and the new Ariel was just announced. Halle Bailey, singer in the duo Chloe x Halle, uploaded a photo to the group’s Instagram account to share the exciting news.

A Disney Dream Come True

“Dream Come True” is right- almost all of us have dressed up at some point in our life as a Disney Princess. Yet this talented 19-year old gets to play the role ‘for real,’ and will serve as the dream and role model for many more girls in the future. As a well-established singer, Halle’s voice is sure to carry the amazing tunes we all know and love and give them a vibrant new take.

The Search Process

It was not an easy search process to find the right person to play the part of the renowned singing mermaid. After many auditions and applicants, director Rob Marshall said “it was abundantly clear that Halle possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence, and substance — plus a glorious singing voice — all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role.”

Halle’s Stardom Prior To Disney

While this position is Halle Bailey’s biggest to date, she has already had several years in the spotlight alongside her sister, Chloe. The two rose to fame back in 2013 when their cover of Beyoncé’s song, “Pretty Hurts,” was noticed by the “Single Ladies” singer herself. Since then, the video has received over 17 million views and Beyoncé additionally signed them to her record label, Parkwood Entertainment.

To say having Beyoncé’s guidance has been beneficial would be a complete understatement. The icon has helped Halle and her sister grow professionally and even had them open for the Beyoncé & Jay-Z On The Run Tour II. We also can’t forget that Beyoncé is also a part of the Disney team now, voicing Nala in the soon-to-be-released “The Lion King” (in case you need a date idea)! We’re sure that had an influence in the final decision!
